Rereading it as an adult I was wondering if it was going to be as good as I remembered, and while it wandered far afield, but at woodiwisx pages you have room for a story to stretch time and space, it was entertaining.

Some books remain timeless, back onto my “favourite keeper” shelf Ashes in the Wind is one of the earliest Civil War romances, and as a thirty year old novel it does not have the same snappy dialog and page-turning plots that newer titles have.

Strong prose and vivid settings makes everything better and Woodiwiss definitely excels on both accounts. You get the wretched feelings of being torn apart by loyalties and ideas of decency and when they get sacrificed. Preview — Ashes in the Wind by Kathleen E. As each new book was published her writing became more intricate and showed more depth. What I didn’t like here was the story, or how the author chose to develop it, and every major fhe that happened in the book.

Though seventeen, she had masqueraded as a stripling lad beneath ib very noses of the Yankees. Things that drove me crazy besides the above: I can’t wrap my head around the idea of a woman passing off as a man for any long period of time.

Cole has her right then and there while Alaina feverishly returns his passion. Alaina, of course, detests Yankees. Thank you for your patience.
