He seeks out her former lover and befriends him, only to find that he is an impostor.

Despite Schlink’s matter-of-fact depiction of events, “The Other Man” and “Sugar Peas” can test credibility, but both stories are anchored in such strikingly portrayed characters that the scjlink trust remains strong. But some of it Echlink think isn’t necessary, and focuses on whether or not modern Germans should bear the guilt of their ancestors. I was bored almost from page 1 and had to drag myself through this whole book. Books by Bernhard Schlink. I’ve seen many men who have. German men are protagonists in each of them, with some traits in common: But I liked Bernhard’s style of writing.

If at times schlin writing seems detached or cold, I wonder how much of that is due to the fact that we are reading translations. He has worn himself out keeping three lives going at once: I felt like this short story was giving Lisa excuses for being a cheating wench.

I also thought that Schlink’s world was something that I couldn’t always relate to. However I really loved how Sugar Peas ended.

Flights of Love: Stories

I just finished reading Flights of Love by German lawyer and writer Bernhard Schlink, famed for his novel The Readerand I must say that it was a simple collection of short stories but nobody can deny the fact that each story brings out strong message. Surely somewhere in these seven stories someone would fly off the handle and say or do something xchlink would later regret, without first weighing the consequences?

As he puts it: This one surely did give me lots of emotion, mainly anger, but lots of emotions. My favorite Schlink book. I stamped this with 5 stars of course. Some of the problems I think are real, and the author does a great job with that: I also loved that the author writes like Hemingyway; there is so much beneath the surface that adds to the characters’ richness.
